Les Miserables

7:30PM on Sep 12-17 & 2:00 performances on Sep 16 & 17 at Reynolds Hall @The Smith Center for Performing Arts | “Les Misérables” is a highly acclaimed and popular musical based on the 1862 novel of the same name by Victor Hugo. The musical features music by Claude-Michel Schönberg, original French lyrics by Alain Boublil and Jean-Marc Natel, with an English-language libretto by Herbert Kretzmer. The story is set in 19th-century France and revolves around themes of love, justice, revolution, and redemption.

The musical premiered in the West End of London in 1985 and has since become one of the longest-running musicals in history. It has been translated into numerous languages and has been staged in many countries around the world. “Les Misérables” has also enjoyed successful Broadway runs and multiple revivals.

The story of “Les Misérables” follows the lives of several characters, most notably Jean Valjean, a former convict who seeks redemption, and Inspector Javert, who is dedicated to bringing Valjean to justice.
