Article Date: January 22, 2023 • Steve Wynn is a real estate developer and casino mogul who played a significant role in the development of the Las Vegas Strip. He is known for building some of the most iconic resorts in Las Vegas, including The Mirage, Treasure Island, Bellagio, and Wynn Las Vegas.
Wynn’s career in Las Vegas began in the 1970s, when he purchased the Frontier Hotel and Casino. He then went on to develop The Mirage, which opened in 1989 and was the first resort to feature a volcano, a dolphin habitat, and an indoor rainforest. The Mirage was a massive success and set a new standard for luxury resorts in Las Vegas.
In 1993, Wynn opened Treasure Island, which featured a pirate-themed show and a treasure-filled lagoon. This resort was also a huge success and helped to further establish Wynn as a major player in the Las Vegas resort industry.
In 1998, Wynn opened the Bellagio, which is considered to be one of the most luxurious resorts in Las Vegas. The Bellagio features an 8-acre lake with fountains, a botanical garden, and an art gallery. It also has a casino and a variety of high-end shops and restaurants.
In 2005, Wynn opened his eponymous resort, Wynn Las Vegas. This resort features a casino, luxury hotel rooms, a spa, and a number of high-end restaurants and shops. The resort also has a golf course and an artificial lake with a performance fountain.
In January 2018, The Wall Street Journal published a report detailing allegations of sexual misconduct by Wynn, including claims that he had harassed and assaulted female employees. As a result of the allegations, Wynn resigned as CEO of Wynn Resorts and sold off his stock in the company. In 2019, Wynn Resorts was fined $20 million by the Nevada Gaming Commission for failing to investigate the allegations of sexual misconduct.
Steve Wynn’s impact on the Las Vegas Strip cannot be overstated. His resorts have set new standards for luxury and entertainment in Las Vegas and have attracted millions of visitors from around the world. He is considered one of the most important figures in the history of Las Vegas and his legacy continues to shape the city today.
