The Drew Las Vegas (formerly Fontainebleu) construction history and 2020 update

Resorts World Las Vegas is a hotel and casino currently under construction on the Las Vegas Strip across the street from Wynn & Encore and is now planned to open in summer 2021.

The history of the Resorts World Las Vegas development:

  • Site of the Stardust Resort and Casino until 2007
  • Boyd Gaming demolished the Stardust Resort to develop its Echelon Place project
  • Boyd halted construction of its Echelon Place project in 2008 due to economic conditions
  • Boyd Gaming sold the property to Genting Group in March 2013 who subsequently announced their plans to redevelop the site as Resorts World Las Vegas
  • Groundbreaking for Resorts World Las Vegas was initially scheduled for 2014, with the first phase of the resort expected to open in 2016
  • The opening date for Resorts World Las Vegas was delayed many times due to claims by Genting Group of redesigns of the project
  • Groundbreaking for Resorts World Las Vegas eventually took place on May 5, 2015 and Resorts World Las Vegas is now schedule to open in the summer of 2021 at a final cost of an estimated $4.3 billion
