The History of The Las Vegas Rat Pack

Article Date: January 22, 2023 • The Rat Pack, also known as the “Kings of Cool,” was a group of entertainers that formed in the 1950s in Las Vegas. The group, which originally included Frank Sinatra, Dean Martin, Sammy Davis Jr., Peter Lawford, and Joey Bishop, was known for their performances at the Sands Hotel and Casino in Las Vegas, as well as their frequent appearances on television and in films.

The origins of the Rat Pack can be traced back to the early days of Las Vegas, when Sinatra and his friends would often gather at the Sands Hotel and Casino to gamble, drink, and entertain each other. The group, which was informal at first, began to gain notoriety for their wild and rowdy behavior, as well as their impressive performances on stage.

In the late 1950s, the Rat Pack began to formalize their performances and began to tour the country, performing at venues such as the Copacabana in New York City and the Cocoanut Grove in Los Angeles. They also appeared in several films together, including “Ocean’s 11” (1960), “Sergeants 3” (1962), and “Robin and the 7 Hoods” (1964).

The Rat Pack’s popularity reached its peak in the early 1960s, but by the end of the decade, the group began to dissolve as the members went their separate ways. Sinatra and Martin retired from performing in the 1970s, while Davis and Bishop continued to perform until their deaths in the 1990s.

Despite the end of the Rat Pack era, the group’s legacy continues to live on. Their music and performances continue to be celebrated by fans, and their influence can be seen in the work of many modern entertainers. The Rat Pack is considered as one of the most iconic group of entertainers of the 20th century, Their performances in Las Vegas and their movies are considered as a cultural phenomena and they will be always remembered as the “Kings of Cool”
