Adelson was the founder, chairman, and CEO of the Las Vegas Sands Corporation, which operates the Venetian and Palazzo resorts on the Las Vegas Strip.
Adelson began his career as a businessman in the trade show industry, but he later turned to the casino industry in the 1990s. He purchased the Sands Hotel and Casino in Las Vegas in 1996 and began a major renovation and expansion of the property. In 1999, he opened the Venetian, a luxury resort that features a replica of Venice’s Grand Canal, complete with gondolas and singing gondoliers. The Venetian was a major success and it quickly became one of the most popular resorts on the Las Vegas Strip.
Following the success of the Venetian, Adelson opened the Palazzo in 2007, which is also located on the Las Vegas Strip. The Palazzo is a luxury resort that is connected to the Venetian and the two properties share many amenities, including a casino, restaurants, and shops. Together, the Venetian and Palazzo are the largest hotel and casino properties on the Las Vegas Strip.
In addition to his involvement in the Las Vegas casino industry, Adelson was also a prominent philanthropist. He and his wife, Dr. Miriam Adelson, had donated millions of dollars to charitable causes, including medical research, education, and Jewish causes. They also established the Adelson Family Foundation, which supported a wide range of charitable causes.
